Evaluation - Q1: in what ways does your media product use, develop, challenge forms and conventions of real media products.
For our music video we used an original song that was produced by tears carlio and ms sarra. As we based our media product on the genre of RnB, we had to follow codes and conventions of real media products. Througout our music video we tried very hard to ensure the mise-en-scene was carefully analysed in order to shadow the most commonly used lighting, costume and props of similar media products.
The lighting we used for our music video differed depending on the different parts, but in general there werent many bright, outrageous colours or tonnes used. The reason we chose to keep the colouring fairly simple was because we felt they needed to go with the tone and mood of the song, which was mellow and was meant to give off a sad ore. Most of our filming was done outdoors which meant we had natural sunlight, this looked very good and also meant we didnt have to use artificial lights. For some parts of out video, for example the bedroom scenes, Tears carlio's scene and the opening and closing scene we used a blue screen which meant we had to use artificial lighting. This was effective as it allowed us to spotlight what was important, and allowed us to use different colours and effects.
In terms of costume once again we didnt want to use anything to extravegant, however Ms Sarra wore trendy outfits that werent to loud but portrayed a sense of class and youth. In most RnB videos they tend to show alot of skin and girls generally wear minimal clothing. Andrew Goodwin's theory is that this shows the voyeuristic treatment of the female body, however as our target audience is quite young and we are quite young ourselves we chose to go againt this typical convention. Tears Carlio however looked quite typical of what is found in RnB videos in terms of males. He wore designer clothing and had a number of tattoo's and also had lots of jewellery on, he followed the typical codes and conventions.
